Bakti Desa : Day 1

Today is the first day of Bakdes. I supposed to go to school at 6 am but because i woke up late, i finally arrived at 6.40. Luckily, the others didn’t leave me. I joined the 13th public transportation. I thought i was the only girl in that car, but there were Indri and Wayda.

The journey to the village is so much fun. We sang together to the song that our driver play. It was funny because the song is ‘dangdut’ songs or old songs. Some of our friends slept for a while, until we arrive at the ‘Balai Desa’.

In Balai Desa, i sat outside because i thought the chairs inside ‘Balai Desa’ weren’t for the students. I was so bored while listening to the speech because the speech is spoken with Sundanese language and i don’t understand Sundanese.

I took some pictures at Balai Desa and had a walk with my friend, Grace. After we had a walk, we went to the dining room to take our food because we were so hungry. The line is so long. I queued in that line about 15-20 minutes. After we ate, at about 12 o’clock, we directly went to our house there. I was placed with Athaya, Elvina, and Fariza. We lived at Mr. Abdul’s house.

Mr. Abdul is a farmer . But we couldn’t go to work with him because usually he go to work for 3 days and 2 nights. It was impossible to us to come with him, even when we wanted to. Luckily, Mrs. Abdul is working too. She works at the field near our house. We were very excited to go to work tomorrow morning.

In the afternoon, we went to the bathroom, which was outside the house. People can easily look inside the bathroom, and that made me a little bit worry about my business in the bathroom. After we checked the bathroom, we went to carrot field with the other classmate. And we took pictures of us and ourself with a great view.

Finally, in the end of the day, we ate with Mr.Abdul’s family. It was delicious! And after we ate, we go to sleep.

Inspiring Person

Rowan Sebastian Atkinson, CBE (born 6 January 1955) is an English actor, comedian, and screenwriter who is best known for his work on the sitcoms Mr. Bean and Blackadder. Atkinson first came to prominence in the sketch comedy show Not the Nine O'Clock News (1979–82). He has been listed in The Observer as one of the 50 funniest actors in British comedy  and amongst the top 50 comedians ever, in a 2005 poll of fellow comedians. He has also had cinematic success with his performances in the Mr. Bean movie adaptations Bean and Mr. Bean's Holiday and in Johnny English and its sequel Johnny English Reborn.

Atkinson was brought up Anglican, and was educated at Durham Choristers School, St. Bees School, and Newcastle University, where he received a degree in Electrical Engineering. In 1975, he continued for the degree of M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering at The Queen's College, Oxford. First winning national attention in the Oxford Revue at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 1976,[13] he had already written and performed early sketches for shows in Oxford by the Etceteras – the revue group of the Experimental Theatre Club (ETC) and for the Oxford University Dramatic Society (OUDS), meeting writer Richard Curtis and composer Howard Goodall, with whom he would continue to collaborate during his career.
After university, Atkinson did a one-off pilot for London Weekend Television in 1979 called Canned Laughter. Atkinson then went on to do Not the Nine O'Clock News for the BBC. The success of Not the Nine O'Clock News led to him taking the lead role in the medieval sitcom The Black Adder (1983), which he also co-wrote with Richard Curtis. Atkinson's other creation, the hapless Mr. Bean, first appeared on New Year's Day in 1990 in a half-hour special for Thames Television. The character of Mr. Bean has been likened to a modern-day Buster Keaton

Atkinson's film career began with a supporting part in the 'unofficial' James Bond movie Never Say Never Again (1983) and a leading role in Dead on Time (also 1983) with Nigel Hawthorne. He was in the 1988 Oscar-winning short film The Appointments of Dennis Jennings. In addition to his supporting roles, Atkinson has also had success as a leading man. His television character Mr. Bean debuted on the big screen with Bean (1997) to international success. A sequel, Mr. Bean's Holiday (2007) also became an international success. He has also starred in the James Bond parody Johnny English (2003) and its sequel, Johnny English Reborn (2011).

Best known for his use of physical comedy in his Mr. Bean persona, Atkinson's other characters rely more heavily on language. Atkinson often plays authority figures (especially priests or vicars) speaking absurd lines with a completely deadpan delivery.

One of his better-known comic devices is over-articulation of the "B" sound, such as his pronunciation of "Bob" in the Blackadder II episode "Bells". Atkinson suffers from a stammer,[28] and the over-articulation is a technique to overcome problematic consonants.

Atkinson's often visually based style, which has been compared to that of Buster Keaton,[21] sets him apart from most modern television and film comics, who rely heavily on dialogue, as well as stand-up comedy which is mostly based on monologues. This talent for visual comedy has led to Atkinson being called "the man with the rubber face": comedic reference was made to this in an episode of Blackadder the Third ("Sense and Senility").

Atkinson was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2013 Birthday Honours for services to drama and charity.

He won TV Prize for the category Best Foreign TV Personality - Male (Basta utlandska man) in 1994, 1996, and 1998. He also won BAFTA TV Award for the category Best Light Entertainment Performance for Blackadder Goes Forth (1989) in 1990 and Best Light Entertainment Performance for Not the Nine O'Clock News (1979) in 1981. And he also won Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award UK for the category Funniest Person . He got 13 other nominees too. He is a legend in the world of actor and comedian.

My Holiday

My last holiday was great. I celebrated Christmas with my friends and family. First I celebrated with my friends in GKJ in Merdeka Street. There we performed a drama story about our story in Senior High School 3. People were appreciated it and I was very happy. I put on some songs in the drama so it wouldn’t be so boring. And I think it worked.

Then in 25th December, I went to my family’s house in Bekasi. I was sick in that day, well not really bad but I wasn’t feel so good that day. Usually I eat a lot especially for cake, but I just ate some cakes and then just slept. I felt so bored because there was no one in my age. Luckily I brought comics.

After that, I just relaxed in my house. I watched a lot that I forgot to eat. I watched Running Man, Batman, Despicable Me, etc. it was fun because I love to watch movies! Especially comedy and action movies.

And on new year’s eve , I went to Cilacap to my family’s house again. There we prayed and sang together. That’s a tradition in my family. We gathered and then sharing about anything related to family like advices or wishes.  On the next day we went to the beach and saw the Nusakambangan, a jail with high level of security in Indonesia.

I enjoyed my holiday because  I can relaxed, even just for a while. I can watch movies all day long and woke up really late. And there was so much things I want to do but I couldn’t because there was no time. I hope my holiday last longer.

Summary of The Little Match Girl

A small girl makes her living selling matches on the streets of New York. It's winter, and the hustling crowds at best ignore her, and some are outright rude. She takes shelter and, to try to stave off the cold a bit, lights a match. It gets blown out; this happens again, then on the third try, she falls into a dream. In this dream, cherubs attend her, she gets a new doll, then a new dress. The cherubs put her on a throne. Then a storm comes, and she goes toward a candle. That candle goes out, and we see that back in the real world, so did her match and her life. An angel comes along and takes her soul.

Moral Value : We must help each other especially the one that need it the most

Task 4 : Short Story

The Little Match Girl

It was new year's Eve, and the weather was bitterly cold. The sky was pitch black, and snow fell in large flaks. In the midst of the blizzard, a little girl staggered down the street, her head and feet bare. When she had left home, she had been wearing old slippers, but as she was crossing the road, she had been in such a hurry, that she had lost both of them. One of them had fallen right under the wheels of a large carriage, and the other had been grabbed by an urchin who wanted to use it as a boat.

The little girl staggered along her naked feet blue with cold. In her torn and dirty apron, she carried a large bundle of matches. She held a matchbox in her hand. She had a very bad day. No one had bought a single match from her. She was cold and hungry and was frightened to go home, because her father would beat her when he discovered she had not earned a penny. The snow continued to fall and the flakes looked like swan feathers in her pretty, curly, blonde hair. But what did she care about having lovely hair? All she knew was that on New Year's Eve all other little children and their parents enjoyed a big celebration feast.

The little girl found a spot in between two houses where she sat down, becoming colder and more frozen. What was the point of going home where her father would be angry with her? In any case, it was almost as cold inside her home as outside, the wind whistled so sharply through the large cracks in the walls.

The little girl could hardly move, her fingers were so stiff with cold. She told herself that if she lit one match, just one, it would warm her up. So she struck a match. There was a joyful crackling and the flame rose, warm and bright in her hand. The little girl had a sudden vision that she was sitting in front of a large copper stove. She stretched out her feet to warm them.

Too late! The stove had disappeared. All that remained was the blackened stump of a match in her fingers.

The little girl decided to strike a second match. This time, the flame was even brighter and more beautiful. The little girl saw a room containing a table covered with beautiful china. A large roast goose, all brown and plump, lay on a handsome platter. Then, suddenly, the goose rolled off the table and disappeared. All that lay before the child was the cold, gray street. It was unbearable.

The little girl desperately wanted to find the copper stove that had crackled so joyfully and the tasty goose that had smelled so delicious...

The little match seller struck a third match and found herself transported immediately to a beautiful house that contained a shining Christmas tree, covered with glittering garlands and brightly colored balls. Fruit and toys hung from the branches. Children were dancing in a ring around the tree, and they took her hand and brought her into the circle.

The little girls wanted to join in the dancing, but suddenly she was outside in the cold again. The snow had stopped and the stars shone over the dark, deserted street. A few passers by, in a hurry to get back to their friends  and family, rushed past without seeing the little girl, who huddled between two houses and stared at the sky.

A shooting star left a long and brilliant trail. The little girl knew that this meant someone was about to die. Her old grandmother, the only person who had ever been kind to her, had taught her this: if a star falls, it means that a soul has gone to God. She struck another match and this time her grandmother appeared to her, looking as she used to, with her sweet and gentle expression.

''Grandmother take me away!''  begged the little match girl.  ''Do not leave me alone. I know that when the match goes out you will disappear just like everything else I have seen until now. Like the fire that burned so brightly, like the goose that smelled so delicious, like the Christmas tree, you will fly away and I shall be left all alone in the dark street without anyone to look after me.''  Terrified at the idea of being abandoned once again, the little girl lit not one solitary match, but burned the whole box. Her grandmother reappeared, looking so beautiful in her black velvet gown, that she wore only on special occasions.

The old lady smiled tenderly at her granddaughter and took her in her arms. Then they flew away into the sky amid the brilliant glow of the matches, and were soon in heaven. The dawn broke on New Year's Day. A passer by discovered the barefoot little girl with curly hair, lying dead in the snow. All around her lay spent matches.

Task 3 : My Unforgettable Moment

My Unforgettable Moment happened few months ago. I was chatting with my friend, Danelle. We both love to watch badminton games. While we were talking about badminton games, Danelle asked me to watch the badminton match live. I agreed because I’d love to see the match live and feel the euphoria.

After that, I decided to save my money for the ticket. I eat less and actually it was hard to do. But when I success on the first day, my will became stronger and I thought I could get enough money for the ticket.

My money was already enough for the ticket. I felt really really happy that time. But then other happy news came. Danelle said we can watch the match for free! I jump off the bed after hear that news and directly tell my mom about my plan to watch the match in Jakarta. My mom agreed and I can’t stop smiling after that.

The day had come. We are really ready to watch the match. At the front gate we met the badminton player from Canada. She is beautiful, tall, and kind. She smiled at me and Danelle! We smiled back at her and then we walked in to the court.

In the court, we sat in VIP class. It felt so close to the players and we easily watch the match with almost no disturbance, except the man who is standing in front of us and blocking the view of the match. There, we can find so many celebrities who were watching the match.

And after the match that Indonesia won, the players threw some shirts to the audience, and lucky me, I got one from Ahsan ! I felt very lucky and happy, but I decided to share it with Danelle. Well thank you so much to Danelle because of her I can watch the match without using my money and had a super great experience.
